Make a telephone call right from your computer with Google Talk!

I LOVE GOOGLE TALK - I can sit right at my desk and make a phone call! I no longer have to worry about not being able to make a long distance phone call while at work. Yes of course I could use my cell phone (as my husband keeps reminding me), but what is the fun in that! Students had fun calling their parents - however, this application IS NOT downloaded on the students' computers - otherwise there could be major issues with students calling everyone - as you could imagine.

Google talk is an online application allowing users to communicate through voice calls as well as instant message receipts. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) is the convention allowing transmission of voice through the internet. Google Talk connects people all around the world and this is a free application.

Small Worlds is a virtual world that we found on the internet. You can create an avatar and change its look. You can even take it shopping and buy it clothes. Another cool feature of Small Worlds is that you can create and customize your own room. There are games which allow you to earn coins so you can go shopping. There are also hang out rooms and game arenas. Small Worlds is a very fun and entertaining social networking site.

Star doll

Star doll is a really animated girly like site. The animated girls are sorta barbie like, and the age group it targets is a teenage girl age. The animated people can shop, work, earn money and have their own little apartment they live in. You can change anything about the girls look. Her clothes, face, eyes, hair(basically you can make her into what you want).

Google Background

Customize your Google startup page by downloading your own picture. Look at the bottom left hand side of Google and you will see Add Background Image. Click and download picture. You can also remove the picture.

Firefox Personas

Firefox personas is a way to personalize your firefox browser. It also makes your browser look more visually appealing versus just the plain default gray. There are many "skins" available to choose from. There is a search bar in the top right of the main screen to find specific designs you like. There is also many categories to choose from if you don't know something to specifically search. Your firefox needs to be updated with the correct software, but on the main screen of the website they provide a link to download it if you don't already have it.

Meez Nation

A feature of the virtual world of Meez.com is that a user can create a room to invite other avatars to for chatting. Features of the room include: One can add own furniture, wallpaper, invite friends and watch videos. Each user account can create up to 3 rooms. After a user creates a room any one knowing of the URL can visit the room. The room starts out plain and you can add items. Some items are free, while others do cost coins or cash. One can earn coins by playing games or signing up for promotions. A user is also given free points every day by logging on and clicking The Daily Boost.

Not only do you a create room, but you decide the "hood" that you want your room to reside in. The students will create a room, then they will explore the chatting feature when the class meets again.

MEEZ - Animated Avatar

Meez is an online website where you can create a 3-D, animated avatar. Customize your avatar with hair, clothing, accessories, gadgets and even animation - to express/represent yourself. I created an avatar using a computer and one cooking! This is a very FUN website to create an animated avatar. I had fun choosing hair, clothing and playing with all the animations. You do recieve 2000 points when you save your avatar. To earn points you may actually pay for them or play games to earn coins and cash! You also receive gifts - which are worth points! Visit your meez page daily and click Daily Boost - and you will receive points.

The talking part of this message works best if you find a picture that is straight forward and does not show teeth. If you post this message on your blog - it will start talking as soon as it is loaded - so may not be a good idea to post on your blog - unless it is a welcome message.
